Maple Red Stars Poem by Mark. A Heathcote

Maple Red Stars

maple red stars
radiate autumnal spaces
hiding where you are

suitcases emptied -
ah, no place like home
Manchester rain

the night stars
no thanks to you are lost
municipal lighting

city park benches
a place of joy and
despondency

rat—takes pizza home
triangle through round hole—no
Uber deliveries

first building blocks:
the Earth, the moon, the stars
and then Manhattan

buildings shoulder
to shoulder block out the sun,
promising better days

outside the city
in a sash window frame
ladybirds awaken

New Year's eve
soon the streets will be filled
with dead fir trees

city snowfall
around odd-looking pylons
alien Christmas trees

subtle emergency
when all the pigeons leave home
and refuse to roost
