It's Mardi Gras tonight
And I"m feeling like a king
Seeing the sights
The pageantry
The costumes
The face paint and the makeup
Let's not forget the elegant masks
The celebrations
The colors of purple, yellow, and green
are apparent
Even the fleur de lis' stand out
New Orleans has never looked more
beautiful than it does
Or than it has
Tonight
On this night
It's Mardi Gras tonight
And on this night
I'll have some fastnachts
Some cherry wine
And a king cake
There's something for everyone
Young and old alike
Decked out in costume
In my outfit
Call me the king of the Mardi Gras
I wouldn't have a problem with it
Not tonight
On this night at least
I feel like royalty
New Orleans is absolutely sparkling
right now
If not at least a little decadent
I see her
And I wave her to come over
Let's toast to the Mardi Gras
Let's toast to the night
This night of all nights
Everyone's dancing down Bourbon Street
So let's join them
Let's be free
Maybe we'll end up at the French Quarter
For so many here in New Orleans to see
