Mask Poem by Ragy Sandid

Hello, my mask
I missed you.
Where've you been?
I'm too afraid to ask

Too much a reveal?
Couldn't stand the raw nerve
Even that moment
We just couldn't steal

I pushed all in the frame
Of the people's picture
They'd rather have selfies
Not exactly the same.

I saw my naked face
Is that how I look?
While others are pretty
They all seem 'in place'

All are about to take it off
But a word stops them
A word unsaid and unheard
A ripple in the sea runs rough

So, it's time I heard the tide
It's just a tsunami scare
Hug yourself hard enough
It will just....subside

So, welcome back, put it on me
I've become enclosed in you
Tighten yourself against my skin
Ah, now - I see - people just like me.
