Mausoleum Of Living Things Poem by Muhammad Kautsar

Mausoleum Of Living Things

I've noticed lately how I carry pieces of people,
Like souvenirs from a journey, I didn't even realize I was on.
It's weird, right? Like, they're not even here anymore,
but they're still a part of me.

I'm a walking mausoleum,
not of the dead, but of the living.
the way I house the remnants of lost loved and faded friends,
engraving the walls with memories of time shared.

I saw your ghost when I passed by the coffeeshops we used to visit,
it reminds me of all the 'could be's.'
Suddenly, the scent of bergamot filled the air,
a phantom hug on a motorcycle ride through the city.
He taught me to speak my truth,
even when it meant I had to let go.

another ghost appears every time I see the word 'Bangkok, '
a rainy night, sheltering under a tin roof near midnight.
We talked about our dreams and future,
seeing each other until the end of life.
Only to become, 'the person I knew from college.'
She reminded me that even the closest bonds can fray,
and that change, though painful, is inevitable.

Every time I eat my favorite food, it always reminds me of you.
The night that we shared when you drank a bottle or two.
A love story bloomed too late, but somehow ended up too soon.
I lost my best friend and partner, on the day that we parted way.
His ghost whispers of shared dreams,
and the courage to risk my heart again.

The haunting melody of "Affection", takes me back to the night we met.
You said, "That's a good anthem you got there" along with a super like.
I thought that we had something to build,
Until you left me and took me years to forget.
He taught me that sparks don't always ignite a fire,
Especially, when it's all only in my head.

I am a mosaic of broken pieces,
a tapestry woven from laughter and tears,
joy and pain.
Each ghost, a chapter. Each memory, a lesson. Each love, a life I've lived.

I'm a living mausoleum,
and these ghosts, they aren't haunting me.
They're a part of me, a reminder
that I've loved, I've lost, and I've grown.
