Me Is I Poem by Veda Bollapalli

Me Is I

A question posed: answer unknown
A living creature, breathing, surely, yet
the beauty of the beholder, I cannot say
For its through only a reversed glass
From which I can glance
And to confine into a reflection
That shall not pass
For I'm more than what's seen, a vision

To quantity, qualify, and define, life's
Simplest of tasks
But it births a ruler and a subject, succumb
The word me a facet, the letter I compound
Rise, I say, "I am who I am"
Failing, I knew it, I blame the evil eye
I'm more than what I'm told, listen

Dead roses and butterflies, black and red
"Batman" he whispers, I simply shake my head
That song was not yours, I digress
My memory winds to that chilly winter day
Bits and pieces of a puzzle from scratch
I latch, attach, light a fire to a match
I'm more than just one heart, a fission

I'm from the crimson of my tears, the
unreleased cries
The marble floor glistens, within me I confide
Breathe, two more, point a finger make a square
(I learned this hiding my sorrow behind the
Stories of my peers) I crack,
I beg, my dignity sheds, but alas I can only grow
I'm more than just my ignorance, a woman

I'm more than a follower, for I have a mission
I laugh, I cry, I sing and dance, it's a creation
Forming bonds, making one step into ten a celebration
A little bit of everyone I love, dancing in the kitchen
Unbeknownst to you, I'm more than everything you think
More than just a label, listen to my vision
More than this poem, more than a definition
More than a name, a word, a rumor, a title
For at the end of the day you and me are but the same
But I am me for all the reasons you are not,
And I can't be you the same way
