Meaningless Triumph Poem by Kevin Joy Varghese

Meaningless Triumph

It was the day five people went,
into the cave with all their power.
One wore the shoes that he had lent,
another came insinuated by his lover,
the rest, they were just brothers,
with no love for each other.

For even in the morning, the sun couldn't exhibit its might,
bitter darkness engulfed them.
But they truly put up a fight,
life or death didn't bother them.
While they all fought, one of the brothers coughed hard,
it was his tactic that was left marred.

The three brothers fought among themselves in vain,
to others amusement, it was just ridiculous.
Till one of them died in utter pain,
that they fought with others in battle so humongous.
The insinuated lover then left his life,
his presence is mourned only by his to-be wife.

For now, there were only three,
the two brothers and the one with lent shoes.
Full of hate, this spread great grief
and the siblings just overpowered the one with woes.
Now, only they two were remaining,
it was a display of their natures so cunning.

They tried to outclass the other,
using all the tricks to win.
In the end, the victory was with the on who was elder,
he jumped so high and his face lit up with a grin.
But, with whom would he celebrate this jubilance,
for he lost all that he had, now what was its relevance?
