Memorial Poem by William Barton

Memorial

My fragile memorial flowers
Shiver in the darkening breeze.
And my two sad candles -
Tearfully reflected
In the cold rolling river -
Flicker feebly
and slowly
expire

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When I was staying in York in a flat by the river, I noticed several bunches of flowers and candles fixed to a post in memory of someone who had drowned at that spot.
