Memorial Day Poem by Marilyn Lott

Memorial Day

t is Memorial Day once again, folks
So let us take time out to pause
Stop the world that whirls around us
And remember who fought for our cause

There are so many people to thank now
For giving their lives or nearly so
As we lower our heads in remembrance
At home or nearby church where we go

For where would we be without our heroes?
Let’s stand still and pray for them today
They fought for the freedom for us all
There is so much that we need to say

Let us light a candle in their memory
Let’s list their names as we do
Thank God for the ones still with us
They fought for me and fought for you

Let’s go to the cemetery to honor
Those sadly unable to be with us
Let’s put a flag by their tombstone
There are so many things to discuss

We must never ever forget them
And that’s why we honor this day
While having a picnic with friends and family
Don’t forget those we can never repay!
