Memories Poem by Mehreen Tahir

Memories

It takes little to have the memories flowing again,

of all the events that shaped my life,

the ones I chose to store away,

in the very deepest corridors of my mind.

Impenetrable,

yet accessible on the easiest notion,

of anything that points me to,

that very special hallowed memory.

Each one unique,

moving, in its own way,

touching the very depths of my soul,

with the special feelings associated.

The happiness,

the spontaneity.

the excitement,

the warmth,

the love,

the loneliness,

the despair,

the hopelessness,

the grief,

but, each held alive,

by the conviction so strong,

that these are the moments that shaped my life.

Bringing emotions I never knew existed,

experiences that made life unbearable,

but some,

that made me wish upon a star,

that time stands still,

and the moment goes on forever.

Still time never waited for me,

for anyone,

the moments, all of them,

the ugly,

and the beautiful,

all died away,

but leaving a footprint on my very heart,

a mark so dark, so deep,

that colours me in reds, yellows and blues,

a colour for each of those special moments,

those lasting emotions,

that are laying forever in the depths of my mind,

for me to conjure up,

when life starts to lose meaning,

these memories hold me together,

and keep me going another day,

if not for anything else,

then just to make new ones!
