Memories - Poem by David Cadywold

The one I split up with
Is not the one I met
Not the one I fell in love with
Or got inside my head

Time changes all of us
The way we look and feel
Expecting her to be the same
Is unrealistic and naive

The images of her running through my mind
When I met her 20 years ago
Are the ones I have difficulty with
Just cant seem to let her go

Each night that passes, I sleep some more
Less twisting in my tummy, less pain in my heart
I cannot keep dwelling on feelings from the past
Set them free, deal with them, they say the pain wont last.

Poet's Notes about The Poem
