Memories Poem by Alesia Leach

Memories

The wind howls through a shattered heart,
broken, shredded, and torn apart.

Innocence that never had a chance,
when evil had its first glance.

Scarred deep within the soul,
burden with dreams unable to control.

Skin quivers with dark memories,
sometimes overshadowing the little victories.

Memories come suddenly with no defense,
even eclipsing a day's happy events.

Still at this vast distance,
memories are steady in their persistence.

Their sweet voice inflicts the pain,
trapped like a dog on a chain.

Forever they are to touch the mind,
haunted by visions of the past, resigned.

That I have to post this upsets me:

However hard we try to drive away painful thoughts of the past from our mind, persistently they invade our mind and steal away the present joys and we are driven to a state of deep dejection! Very powerful depiction of a shattered mind! The images used add to the poignancy of the poem!
