I hold the past like petals in my hand,
Soft, fragrant, yet trembling with decay;
Each thought returns like waves upon the sand,
Some warm with light, some wash my heart away.
The laughter once shared echoes in the chest,
A gentle balm for nights too long and cold;
Yet tears arise where joy once found its rest,
And every cherished hour feels bought and sold.
Memory walks both corridors of delight,
And shadows of the sorrow we have known;
It cradles hope in day, yet haunts the night,
A friend and ghost that never stands alone.
So I embrace its double-edged refrain,
For comfort lives entwined with quiet pain.
