Mere Human- Psalm 8: 4 Poem by Parker Perrella

Mere Human- Psalm 8: 4

Who am I that you would think of me?
That you would care for me as your own?
I am but a single thread in an intricately woven quilt,
Who am I that you chose to use me?
I am but a single drop in the vast ocean,
Who am I that you would single me out?
I am but a blade of grass in an endless field,
A single grain of sand on the ocean shore-
Mere human-
Who am I that you would have thought to create me?
And that creating me simply would not suffice,
You chose to love me.
You have set me apart as holy.
I can offer nothing to the Most High God,
Nothing that He has not already spoken into existence,
But what I have been given,
I give all the more freely,
For the sake of making His name known among the nations.
No, He does not need me to shout His praises-
He is immutable in Himself-
But it is for my sake that I worship and live to glorify Him.
He is the power source that controls the entire system-
His power and resources constant,
But we as the cords are useless apart from Him.
It is not He who needs us,
It is we who need Him.
