Meteorite Storm Poem by Rashida Mack

Meteorite Storm

A natural fire burns eternal within.
It flickers and flares
as my darting eyes register,
the unfolding of what has always been.

An arsonist has set a fire within.
It flickers and flares
as my body recalls what the mind has promised to forget,
the shadows beckon my awakened memories of anger and fear
long locked in my hips and heart.

Water and air,
as manifested in my left and right palm,
help tame the wild flames burning within,
doused in part and at times, spread anew,
a mighty wind blows fire within.
