Mi Bus Pass And A Jumbo. Poem by George Melling

Mi Bus Pass And A Jumbo.

(Mi bus pass represents freedom and encouragement
not to become housebound,
but,
I keep hearing murmurings of discontent
from government about lost revenue.
I'd miss it,
and we DO pay a price,
it's called….
NEARER MY GOD TO THEE.)

Just got back from Manchester airport,
using mi bus pass,
shhhhhh…………………..listen quietly,

that shower of smug, conniving crooks,
detest us having one,

and whilst in a beer garden
at one end of the runway,
clutching a cup of tea,

I…………………….

Saw an Emirates Jumbo
take off,
this leviathan
of the sky,
and I ponder with a
child's eye,
how does it
fly?
-
Because my world is locked
in gas lamp,
cotton mills, clogs and
coal,
and I gaze with
innocent wonder,
an awakening
of my soul.
-

What progress,
V.E. Day baby,
thoughts drifting back
once more,
those days
before toilet roll,
squares of newspaper
behind lavvy door.
-
And before me,
a shrinking world,
vapour trailed sky
commonplace,

and I reflected,
what progress
in my time,

and saw the Jumbo Emirates
take off,
sat-nav pointed……….

edge of space.
