Migraine Poem by Melissa Bange

Migraine

Rating: 5.0

4 days & 3 nights
A prisoner to this bed
Laying here crippled
Pain in my head
This migraine beating
My temples over & over again
Paralyzing my neck
Knotting my stomach
Until the inevitable
Rushing, rushing vomit
Leaves me breathless
Begging for air
My body convulsing
Hurling stomach acid
Onto the porcelain
The voice in my head says,
'Please, God take me! '
I gasp, open my eyes
Light so bright
10,000 daggers
Stabbing my pupils
Slicing my retinas apart
Blind & blinking
Tears
Tears like acid on my cheeks
Crawling down, one drops into my ear
It echoes, radiating through my lobe
Landing in my head
This migraine beating my temples
Over & over again
A prisoner to this bed
Laying here crippled
4 days & 3 nights
I've brushed my teeth
500 times
My nose full of stench
The odor lingers
Every muscle of my body aches
From constant trembling
Blood runs through my veins
Boiling, flowing
Like waves at high-tide
Rushing toward the shore
My bones breaking apart
Like a fallen tree
The lumber
Splits, cracks, splinters
Hits the ground dead
The pressure building
4 days & 3 nights
A prisoner to this bed
Laying here crippled
Pain in my head
This migraine beating, beating
I
Am
Defeated
I
Am
Am
I?
