Missing You Poem by Aminath Neena

Missing You

The day

Is almost over

Mid afternoon has set in

And dusk will follow

In no time

Among the festivity

Of joyful splendor

The aroma of delicate spices

And sweet incense

Mingled with sweat

Accomplished

by mixed culinary skills

Of extended families

Enhances the gaiety

Of another special occasion

A day of celebration

In Reincarnation

Deciphering

family tradition

Cutlery chirps

On ceramic plates

Like song birds

Singing out of tune

Jubilant laughter Sizzles

In rhythm with chirping feet

Yet, a surreal note lingers

In the surroundings

With irregular beat

I walk meticulously

A pasted smile

On my face

Welcoming the guests

With sweets

Flowing abundantly

To uphold the etiquette

Of times,

Since ancient

While my heart, burns

Missing you

Right beside me

Your arm easing the pain

On my aching shoulders

yet in reality the pain lingers

Knowing that you belong

Else where

In another place

At this time

Celebrating With another.
