Modern Day Poem by Alejandro Torres

Modern Day

I bear the weight
Of a thousand worlds
With a million inhabitants each
On wilting shoulders
When you retreat
And while I do the same
This castle just seems
So much colder
With every word you don’t say
A modern day Romeo
Without her Juliet
Full of foolish romanticism
For one Angel
Granted to the Ace of Spades
By Cupid
A gift your smile was
When you loved me
My heart on my sleeve
Is how I wore it only for you
Expecting it not to stain my shirt
But the blood pattern drops
Stained even still porcelain skin
To spell your name
As a reminder
In the history of this
This moderns day Romeo’s tale
Of how great
The never ending tale of Juliet
Never ending tale of love
Truly is
