Morales Of Corruption Poem by Monte Harris

Morales Of Corruption

As the pains of society serves me
With more of the truth presented before me
They call it, ‘Morals of Corruption’
Look at what the book of life has shown me

An orphan boy set out for his daily expedition
For food, shelter, money and hope
Abandoned as a child
Left for the ruins of society
He does whatever he needs to survive another day;

A homeless man who has made a home over a street vent
During the winter for warmth and shelter
Is doused with gasoline and set on fire
By some kids for the purpose of amusement
Look at what the respect for life has come to;

A drugged out middle-aged couple
Who roam the streets
Searching for that quick fix or hit
Crack and cocaine is the love they desire
Offers their three-week old son
For a mere fifty dollars
A mere substance is worth more than life itself;

As the pains of society serves me
With more of the truth presented before me
They call it, ‘Morals of Corruption’
Look at what the book of life has shown me

A child sits and cries as his mother is physically abused
Again by his drunken stepfather
Day-in and day-out, feeling helpless
As she lies on the floor
In a puddle of blood, crying in agony
He lays beside her, confused by the abuse;

A child returns home from school
A poverty-infested project home
Where needles, crack valves and
Other drug paraphernalia stretches from
The school playground to damn near his front door
Temptation and curiosity has killed so many of our young;

A boy desperately trying to fit in with the crowd
Take his father pistol to school
Showing it off to his friends
He allows another boy to hold the pistol
Just before 12: 00 PM that afternoon
Emergency 911…. Emergency 911….
We have a 12-year-old boy
With a gunshot wound to the head and abdomen
Hurry, I don’t think he’s going to make it
(Beeeeeeeep) FLATLINE…

When do we search for weapons to combat these
problems in OUR society
As the ‘Morals of Corruption’ continue to disintegrate us...
