More Than I Could Endure. Poem by dave lessard

More Than I Could Endure.

When last I saw you, you were shouting
to come back or stay, I wasn't sure
but I knew one thing at that point
and time, it was more than I could endure.
Love isn't love when one's angry
when rage fuels the words of hate
when tenderness flown out the window
when you're on the edge of berate.
When the darkness rules the daytime
when silence speaks more than a word
when a kiss is a distant dream
when your apology isn't heard.
Love is now in chaos,
drifting away from shore
your love life's down the tubes
not as it was before.
When smiles lit up your face
and I held you tight in my arms
whispering sweets in your ear
telling you of your charms.
How quickly the memory fades
how fast the smiles are gone
how sudden the empty embrace
how forgiving becomes wrong.
When last I saw you, you hollered
to come back or stay, I'm unsure
but ending it then was the right thing
as it was more than I could endure.
