Mother Loves Me
I wanted to be like you. Always have and always will.
Wished you were always here. Wished I could always be there.
I tried I really did. I tried to get you to love me.
I tried to get you to notice that I was there.
That I was still alive and still your daughter.
Here I am 15 years later feeling like I am my own mother.
Feeling like you never really wanted me.
You were never there for anything that had to do with me.
Even when I was the one in the spot light.
You always came up with something, anything just to get you out of it.
I loved you, I really did love you.
I looked over all the pain that you caused me. I looked over all the tears you made me cry.
I prayed that one day things would be different.
Really different, like maybe you would love me the same way as I love you.
But really 15 years have gone by and still nothing.
You’re still the same person, and I have tried to change to make you happy.
And really you say you’re my mother,
But really you’re just the person who calls herself that.
You say you love me. And I say you don’t.
Who knows maybe I’ll be like you that is what I have always wanted.
I have never wanted to be anyone else but you.
But if you think I want that now you’re funny.
My child will know I love her and that no matter what I will be there for her.
When she falls she will know that I’ll be there to help her up.
And when that boy she thought she loved breaks her heart,
I’ll be there for her whenever she needs me.
I’ll do everything I can for her. I’ll do everything that you never did for me.

A really touching poem... The frustration, the annoyance, the yearning for attention all mingled together, giving voice to a desperate daughter. I love the last line, 'I'll do everything that you never did for me'.
