Motherhood Poem by Gwendolyn Miller

Motherhood

A woman who begins the journey of life as a young girl
No manual is available to let her know how to begin
She progresses into a role far better than any secular job could offer
A daily balancing act takes place day by day
The responsibilities of the role can often seem overwhelming
Trials appear, obscuring the path
She is prepared for what is to come
The candle to light the way expresses time
It can only burn till the wax is no longer present
Blue and purple faces can be seen among others because of choices made
Society degrades the position by putting a career before a family,
But she will always affirm the sanctity of life.
