Moving On Poem by Paige DeRogatis

Moving On

Rating: 5.0

You left me in a state of immeasurable despair
Now you’re trying to come back but I’m no longer there
Time is a healer, and I believe my heart has healed
Now it’s time for you to hurt. Now it’s time for you to feel.

With you I was a victim, being slaughtered in a war
But my desire not to lose you, was what caused me to ignore
the manipulative tactics that kept me coming back for more.
Now, the truth has been revealed, and I won’t settle like before.

Don’t guilt me into coming back, I refuse to hurt again
You say it will be different, but have you really changed since then?
You impaired my spirit once, and I’m in the midst of mending it
Why would I give you back my heart, if I’m constantly defending it?

So you finally appreciate me, but I’ve already flown away
Maybe you should have thought, before you said goodbye that day
Now you can feel the sadness I was left to bear alone
Let the tears that once filled my eyes, appear within your own.
