My Angel Poem by Chloe D.

My Angel

It's been a whole year
Since you were last here

It was January 6th,2022
That was the day God took you

You were suffering for some time
Still today, I wish that suffering was mine

Every single day I prayed
That I could be the one who slowly decayed

You were in so much pain
But somehow your smile would still remain

To be honest, I wish that I had died
And that you could have been the one who survived

Yes I know that's not how life works
But still, it always hurts

To know that you had a life to live
Where I just have a life to give

It is unfair, God only takes the best
I feel like this is some sort of test

A test to see how well we cope
A test to make sure we don't give up hope

Though I'll admit, at first I did
I gave up hope, I ran and hid

I tried to hide from the grief
Hoping it'd give me some relief

But it didn't, and now I know
To hide from grief, there's nowhere to go

There's no point in trying to undo
The things that God has chosen to do
~
You used to be his angel, now you're mine
So I'll try not to cry or weep or whine

Because I know that you're up there
And you're only as far away as a prayer

Because even though you had to depart
We are apart in distance, but never at heart

Forever and ever, come what may
I will talk up to you every day

I love you so much, more than you know
And I'm not afraid to always let that love show

I keep a part of me with you, day by day
In the little elephant urn, around my neck it shall stay

It helps me realize I'm not alone
And I don't have to do this all on my own

You are watching me, and guiding me too
You may be gone, but you're the one who helps me make it through
