My Best Companion Poem by Peggy Chau

My Best Companion

Being vexed,
I needed an outlet
and turn out I found
you and you and you

You said you couldn’t comment.
Maybe you think I’m telling nonsense.
Yet could you just listen?
As you claimed you were my companion.

You said I should relax
and I was doing my best
to vent out my emotion.
Please do not stop me, but listen.

You said I should fight back.
How can I fight back?
You didn’t know my situation.
Could you just let me explain?

Please listen, please, please please!
I knew I was occupying you
but I only needed an outlet
not a problem solver.

And finally back to bed
I found my last resort,
the teddy bear I hugged
every night when I was young.

It doesn’t talk, it doesn’t cry.
It has no feelings and no pity.
It helps nothing to solve the case.
It only lets me tell what I want to say.
