My Best Friend Poem by chris schwartz

My Best Friend

The walls close in.
You are gone,
And my mind kicks in.
It wonders
Why I don't stop you
Then I realize
There's no stopping
Anyone
Writing the book
In a different chapter
Than the one I live in.
Your silence hurts
A little
But it comes as no surprise
It's more of just the same
In a humdrum of goodbyes.
We're all fighting to be free.
And I felt that,
For
Awhile,
With you and me.
But the Sultan sun
Swept by so fast
That I barely got to
Watch its beauty
Hide beneath the
Understanding moon
That became
You and me.
In the sun that sets so fast
And in the moon I stare at
Every night when you're not here
In the rain that comes at last
When you're finally in my arms
And I have you here.
In whatever you have to give,
Babe, that's enough.
My heart belongs to you.
I love you.
