she says to me
the devil is not welcome here
and so I move back into the shadows
and steady myself against the wall
she has built
i will give her her freedom
i will give her her space
i will give her herself back
but i do not know if we will be the same
there's just too much
that time cannot erase
she'll linger in the places
i keep from the world
she'll be my greatest love always
my dearest friend
my biggest hero
but life has come between us
so i must let go of her hand
and let her be
i won't be her burden
i won't be the reason she
knows what its like to hate
we have to leave each other behind
i've never been so scared
never so unprepaired
i'm losing the one thing
that is keeping me breathing
and so i must learn to love
on my own
blue eyed girl
i love you more than i can articulate
i would do anything to show you
that i put your life before mine
without question
you'll never know the blessing you are to me
i am forever in your debt
i love you because you are you
i love the way you can hurt me so bad
and soothe it so easily
i love the way you laugh so freely
dimples crescent shaped
and beautiful
i love every freckle
that you hate
i love the way you come to me
for advice on how to talk to others
i thank god every day for giving you to me
at least for a little while
we may not see each other
once i walk out this door
but know
that no one will ever mean what you mean to me
should you ever need anything from the world
