My Brother Walter - Poem by George Capron

I SAW MY BROTHER WALTER
HIS FACE HAD LOST HIS GLOW
HE TRIED HIS BEST NOT TO FALTER
AND MAKE BELIEVE IT WAS NOT SO.

THE YEARS OF PAIN HE SUFFERED
COULD NOT, FROM HIS FACE BE ERASED
WHICH TIME AND SICKNESS BUFFERED
AND BROUGHT HIM UNTO THIS PLACE

THERE WAS A SMILE ON HIS FACE
BUT THE PAIN IN MY BROTHER’S EYES
STOPPED ME FULL IN MY PLACE.
MY GOD! I THOUGHT, HOW TIME FLIES.

YESTERDAY, THIS SAD MAN I SEE
WAS JUST A CHILD WHO BEGUILED
AND BECAME ATTACHED TO ME.
HE WAS A TREASURE WHEN HE SMILED.

THIS WAS OUR BABY BROTHER.
HE WAS TREASURED FROM HIS BIRTH
BY OUR DEAR SAINTED MOTHER,
WHO TETHERED HIM TO HER SKIRT.

WALTER WAS A PLEASANT CHILD,
AS CAREFREE AS COULD BE
SOMETIMES I THOUGHT HE COULD BE WILD
THOUGH HAPPY AND COOL WAS HE.

WE WENT TO VISIT WITH OUR BROTHER
MY BROTHER DAVE AND ME.
HE WAS TRANSFORMED INTO ANOTHER
NOT THE BROTHER WE'D COME TO SEE.

THE THOUGHT CAME UNTO ME
OUR BROTHER WAS LAYING THERE DYING.
he THE BROTHER WE HAD COME TO SEE.
SOON, SOON, HE WOULD LEAVE US CRYING.

A TRANSFORMATION HAD TAKEN PLACE
HIS FEATURES WERE NO LONGER THE SAME,
THERE WAS NO LONGER JOY IN HIS FACE
OUR BROTHER WAS TRULY ON ANOTHER PLANE.

HE WAS SUFFERING 'TWAS PLAIN TO SEE
WALTER WAS DOING HIS BEST TO FOOL US,
TRYING HARD TO SET OUR MINDS FREE
BEFORE HE JOINED THE HEAVENLY CHORUS.

NOW HE’S GONE AWAY FROM THE DIN.
AWAY, FROM THE PRESSURES OF LIFE.
AWAY FROM THE TROUBLES AND SIN,
NO LONGER A PART OF FUSS AND STRIFE.

THE STORMS OF LIFE FOR HIM ARE OVER
GIVE PRAISE TO OUR GREAT GOD.
TAKE YOUR TIME, AND MOVE A LITTLE SLOWER.
CONTINUE THE JOURNEY TO MEET WITH THE LORD.

STRIVE! STRIVE, TO REACH THE LIGHT
CAST OFF DARKNESS, ELIMINATE SIN
YOUR VEHICLE HAS TAKEN FLIGHT.
THE LORD OUR GOD BID YOU COME IN.

SO MY BROTHER, ENJOY YOUR TRIP.
TAKE YOUR TIME AND GET THERE SLOW
DON’T STOP TO TAKE NOT EVEN A SIP,
THE SIGNS WILL TELL WHICH WAY TO GO.

THE WAY IS STRAIGHT AND NARROW
FOLLOW THE SIGN THAT LEADS YOU ON
YOU’LL NEVER AGAIN FEEL PAIN or SORROW
WHEN YOU’RE IN HEAVEN AND REBORN.

TELL MOTHER, I’M COMING IN
WHEN MY TIME IS COME TO EXPLORE
A LIFE DEVOID OF PASSION AND PAIN
TO ENJOY GOD’S PEACE FOREVERMORE.
