My Dear, Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

My Dear,

Wish you were here…
Not for my benefit,
Not for a love-making time
For the greater small things
Such as babysitting and
Hanging the clothes out to dry.

Miss you ever so much…
Think of you often
Think about the help you’d be
The extra sleep I’d get
A hand here and there
Picking up after my son and me.

Hope to see you soon…
Carrying the groceries,
Holding open the front door
Hauling the many bags
As I put to bed my son
You can go back for more.

Can’t wait till then…
In the short-of-time spots
Where you go get the little guy
While I go do errands,
Take a long bath,
And re-apply my smile.

Safety and speed to you…
In the hectic days,
And the late interrupted nights
So you may quickly come,
Sharing my bed with me,
The lack of sleep, and the morning sighs.

All the best to you…
As it is slowly realized
That what I need in the moment
Is not a man but a helpmate
A person who can easily be
Always moving, never spent.

Anticipating your arrival…
With excitement and more
I enjoy the idea of who you are
As you wash the dishes,
Do the loads of laundry,
And fix funny sounds in my car.

With all my love…,
Throw in the hugs-n-kisses too,
I hope you make it here fast,
Sincerely!
Ruth
