My Drug Of Choice Poem by Danielle Martens

My Drug Of Choice

My heart beats
slowly, almost not
at all. The blood
in my veins is
gelatinous, thick
and syrupy,
barely pumping.

then, like a waterfall
rushing over a cliff,
the dam breaks.
Caffeine tears to my
core, electrifying my
nerves and awakening
the senses.
