My Food Grows Colder Poem by Richard Willard Armour

My Food Grows Colder

Please don't get up, she said to me
While pausing at my table
But I got up so she could see
I'm courteous and able
She little knew that when I sup
Good manners I am blind to
For till she said, Please don't get up
It hadn't crossed my mind to.
