My Grandkid's Visit Poem by sundaram chandrakalaadhar

My Grandkid's Visit

my grandkid 's visit.

&

my three year old grandson

visited me at last this sunday

for one night stay

after three long years-

a glowing kid with winsome laughter

rolling out music of a hurrying rivulet-

it was full of pleasing sunshine

that dispelled the darkness of loneliness

from our aged hearts-

the kid calling me 'thaththaa' in all sweetness

stole away my time

and in all righteousness enslaved me

and held captive to all his commands-

my limbs ached and mouth yawned wide

but no mercy shown by this cheerful tyrant-

'once again' 'once again' were his endless verdicts

and he tongue-tied me with visible love-

i was repeating hundred times his chosen task-

and he never tolerated slippage of any sort-

it was past midnight

yet he refused his bed-

more and more strident grew his voice

more and more too was his pleading insistence-

'o god, hurry the angel of sleep to my grandson'

as i stood helpless bereft of tricks to befool him -

when at last he slept on his own terms

showing semblance of mercy on a sweating soul-

o that night slept on me

with the veils of peace

dressing and decorating my heart!
