My Heart Cries Peace Poem by Tra Merryman

My Heart Cries Peace

I want to go forward
They want me to stay behind
I say forgive and forget
Put it all in past times
I was told to close the door
On those who have hurt me
Don’t they realize that means to close
The door on them too?
What do they expect me to do?
It’s all an uphill battle;
With life’s ride on the nearest saddle
They say you hurt the ones you love;
That’s the way it goes when push comes to shove.
I love you more than life itself, but I love him too.
You’ll be soon out of the nest to start your own life;
Don’t you care about me, my life,
my happiness, my strife?
Do you want me to not love and be happy?
Do you want my life to be like an old boring
Movie that’s dead or sappy?
Can’t you put things to rest and know it’s for
Me and it’s for the best?
I love this man and no one understands, you all
Have your own opinion when it comes to my life,
But slow your pace; take a long look in the
Mirror at your own face.
Are you perfect, flawless, without sin?
Is it only my life to sit and speak against?
It’s not fair, it’s cruel to say the least;
When you’re grown and on your own,
What trials will you go through to conquer
Your beast?
If I get hurt it only lies with me, I will learn from it and push on
God will heal my pain; will you think even once of what
You’ve contributed … my heartache, your gain?
Can you truly look at me
And say how much you loathe this man?
When his only crime was being legally bound to another;
While his heart and love was with your mother?
You won’t give him a chance.
Even if it’s to make me happy or to allow me some joy;
Do you think it’s a game, that I am his toy?
We will grow old together … him and I;
We love each other until the day we die.
I love you so much my daughters, my sweet dears
Share with me the happiness I desire
Not my heart’s tears …
To make me choose; love for my child or this man I love,
I will surely live alone;
While you live your own life,
It’s this place I will come … this empty home.
