My Love... Poem by Chris Todd, Jr.

My Love...

Before I met you, I walked alone,
with my head hung low,
no hope in this world for me.
Always asking the good Lord for a good woman,
but it never showed, all the mistakes,
all the mistrust, why couldn’t I find love?
Through my life the paths twisted and turned,
always in a direction I didn’t know, always a question,
but never an answer. Life is fleeting, they say, life is short,
live it to the fullest, but I couldn’t by myself,
it was just too hard. Everyday waking up to a bright blue sky,
yet it was a dark as the night sky through my eyes;
look into my eyes, search my soul, you’ll see the pain.
Happiness, how I searched for it, thought I had it,
but it was just and illusion of my mind. In my hole,
looking up at the world, wondering when it’s going to get better;
it always does, no matter how bad it got,
yet always in a state of despair. After all the years in hell,
I made it through; it’s ok, all is well, but still I was alone,
searching for my significant other. But, then, I met you,
and it became obvious you were meant for me.
Every morning I wake up with you on my mind,
how sweet you are. Like a delicate flower,
you picked me from a bushel of many, oh, how happy I felt.
Meeting you the first time took my breath away,
your beauty spell binding, your smile intoxicating,
oh how happy you’ve made me. Deep inside the callus
shell I pose, lies the warmth of my soul,
it melts every time I think of you, oh how I’ve fallen
for you my dear. When I see your smile and I can’t
help but smile, it’s contagious, what else can I say?
The first night we where together, I was nervous,
scared, unsure of myself, but you calmed my fears,
and told me all was well. When I woke up the next day,
I could still smell your perfume, ah how sweet it is,
just like you. Lying side by side, holding hands, it was a perfect evening. Looking deep into your beautiful eyes,
as I waited for the right moment to make my move,
as our lips embraced, it was a magical moment,
one to which the words I speak can not describe,
the first kiss, need I say more? Peering into the future,
as I watch the crystal ball, I see our hands together,
walking side by side…
