My Mother Poem by Elkan Paruque

My Mother

A word came about, she heard it, she quickly looked around to see who spoke it.
She could not see no one other than her own reflection.
She heard it again. Now it was distinctive, pretty close to home as they say.
She moved, slowly, yet quietly looking to find the way.

Hey, she said. No one answered, she said it again, hey, is there anyone there?

No one answered. Yet again. She moved about.
She could not understand as she was without.
She tried and tried to shout.

She felt a kick. A tiny kick, yet powerful and useful as she was drifting to rest Again.
She swiftly became aware, as she heard a tiny voice say, he is coming, Elkan is coming. Do you know what date is it?

She thought again, and again as she heard the rain.

She had lost track of time, she had overlooked the fact that he was due to arrive around that time.
Yet she was there, on her own in her own mind.
She could find a friend...
A friend who would have to find...

She said it again, hey, who said that? Who is there? Coming from where?

There was an answer.
The answer came as we are told seek and you shall find.

'It is I mother. I who is in your womb. I am Elkan, coming to give you much joy as you already have, but it's not enough, as you as a blessed woman, you deserve more and more, and more again. So I am on my way. I will arrive May 7th 1983. Take care of me mother, because I can't yet take care of you.'

The tiny voice said.
She listened careful, as she laid.
The echo insisted as it were a silver maid.

Time passed.
The tiny voice was now big as it said:

'I am here mother, but you are no longer here mother. I have tried to take good care of you.
I miss you, like you there is no other,
I have kiss' you as you are my mother,
I may have favoured you same as father,
I am stronger now, so don't bother,
I can take care of myself and my closest other'

Mother, mother, mother, I am proud of you like no other! '

You are my mother! This poem is for you.
