My Nigeria Poem by Abubakar Mohammed Musa

My Nigeria

Nigeria my country,
Known of war and slavery,
Colonialism possessing you as a monster,
Slavery hunting you as a hunter,
Our forefathers were hunted like demons,
They were also sold like games,
Nothing was known like civilization,
Nothing was known as socialization.

Nigeria, Oh my dear country,
Civilization changed all things,
Colonialism was arrested and caged,
You became a diamond all day shining,
Slavery was hunted and killed,
Amalgamation experienced and done,
The sky turned blue the rivers started to flow,
Grasses turned green our bodies started to grow.

After years of deformation you reincarnated,
Your culture and norms reincarnated,
You reincarnated the spirits of our forefathers,
You backed us at the backs of our mothers,
Memories created and saved,
Histories remembered and shunned,
Babies started to dance before crawling,
For joy and enjoyment our birds started singing.

Oh my country, my future,
Be a bird and sing me a song,
A song of love and freedom,
Be a cloud and give me rain,
A cool rain of drizzling wisdom,
Be a bat and ripen my fruits,
Fruits of knowledge and patriotism,
Be a gun and give us security,
The security that will increase unity,
Be a gavel and knock for us justice,
The justice of equality and service,
Be a promise and give us good leaders,
The leaders that we will envy in the future.
