My Sad Tulips
My tulips bow their heavy heads,
as if the sky has said goodbye.
Their colors fade to softer shades,
while quiet clouds go drifting by.
They once stood tall against the dawn,
bright little flames of pink and red,
but now they lean into the earth,
like tired dreams beside my bed.
I whisper, "Please, don't disappear, "
and touch a petal, thin and cold.
They seem to know the things I hide,
the little sorrows never told.
So let them droop. Let them grieve.
Even flowers have their days of blue.
Perhaps tomorrow, with the sun,
they'll lift their faces—
and so will I, too.
