My Selfish Wishes Poem by Elizabeth Clement

My Selfish Wishes

I wish that you would,
notice me.
Because I know you don’t.

I wish that you would,
see me for me.
Because no one does.

I wish that you would,
Take my pain away.
But I know you probably don’t see it.

I wish that you could,
see the slices in my wrists
that I put there as reminders.

I wish that you could,
Just smile at me,
Because then I’d finally be happy.

I wish that you could,
Make all my selfish wishes come true,
Because they are all in your and only your power to grant.
