The landscape so well-known to me
Seems changed a lot for good and bad;
Most ones I knew have vanished too,
Which makes my heart so very sad.
Many of those who died were good,
And left a trail for righteous souls;
God took away a few that made
The earth, somewhat better for now.
The lives of righteous men, women,
Afill my heart with cherished thoughts,
And goads me on to live like them,
Before my turn to leave too comes!
However long one lives on earth
Is gone like melting snow by sun;
Why waste our precious time to hurt
Our neighbours, brethren and the world?
The love of God had formed us well;
The grace of God helped us live well;
God's mercy gave us time, so swell;
Our sins must not lead us to hell!
