Poem by: Comrade Senemede Abel Opeyemi
I thought of the past
Where drums of battle beat sorrowful sounds,
As soldiers rally with heavy hearts to death and victory,
I thought!
Who stands beside the ruling king, Sharpening his mind to face trials that life may bring?
I thought!
OF the great political scientists,
The nobles who delve Seeking wisdom beyond what others may tell,
In the corridors of influence,
Their minds aglow,
Preparing leaders with wisdom to know,
The nuances of governance,
The struggles they may face,
Their knowledge a shield, guiding rulers with grace.
I thought of the present
As we ponder the failures of the past, The broken promises and systems that don't last, and
The rise of authoritarianism, a haunting sight, As freedoms and rights vanish into the night.
I thought!
We study the power structures and their sway,
But find ourselves lost in disarray,
As the voices of the marginalized go unheard,
Their struggles laid to rest beneath the absurd
I thought!
To what end do we learn from our textbooks
And not justify the truth
We were taught the term democracy
And yet can not be compared to reality
But in this sadness, a glimmer of hope remains,
As we aim to break free from these chains,
To rebuild the foundations, restore what is lost,
And reclaim the values that come at a cost.
For the glory of all NASS.

I would like to translate this poem
Freedom and rights vanish into the night. The voice of the marginalised go unheard. That is a true picture of the present Nigeria situation. A beautiful poem.
