Natural Expense Poem by Nick Veasey

Natural Expense

A world of hurt, a world of pain
Where money fuels power, beauty and name
How much is a life truly worth?
Does business really value our mother earth?

Plundered landscapes,
Ruined towns,
Broken famililes,
Childhood frowns.

Societies run on victimization,
Children inheriting a damaged nation.
Corrupt politions, lawyers and banks,
Streets governed by child soldiers and armoured tanks.

Look at the world you think you know,
Watch nature die and economy grow.
Wtiness the truth with your own two eyes,
As the soul of Africa weeps and cries.

Does hollywood shed a real tear?
When an acre of Amazon is burned clear?
When the last forest finally falls,
Will it be greeted with rapturous applause?

It's time to wake up and see the truth,
Look at the planet you leave for our youth.
