Never-Ending Nightmare Poem by Allen Mahan

Never-Ending Nightmare

Darkness.
A spark ignites a flame.
I can see all around me,
The emotion in her eyes as I comfort her, talk to her.
The feeling of relief she felt,
To finally get some light in this blackened room.
I blink, and the flame goes out.
I call out, but nobody answers,
As if she just disappeared.
Frantically trying to ignite the flame once more,
The ground disappears beneath me.
Falling deeper into darkness,
A seemingly never ending hole.
A bright, white light appears beneath me,
Heat hitting against my body as I fall deeper and deeper.
The light appears to be dimming as I fall closer to it.
Deeper into pure darkness.
The light dies out as I hit a hard, stone floor,
Blood dripping from my face,
But I push myself up off this floor,
And slowly stagger down this narrow hallway but to find a door.
Only to open it and repeat this nightmare.
