Never Forget Poem by Alicia Rose

Never Forget

I await your call
At the end of every night
Hoping to talk to you
To see if everything is all right
It was easy to tell
That you'd never stop
It was easy to see
That you were my 'pop'

On my dresser, there lies a picture of you
Staring past the camera
Into the world
Your eyes glinting
With the wild hope of forgiveness
And although you were smiling
It was just a mask
Trying to hide your hardened past

You'd forget all about it
As soon as you drank
Never took me
Never gave me a 'thanks'
You'd forget who I was
You'd dance through the night
When I told you to stop
You put up a fight

I'll never forgive
And I'll never forget
Never a chance
And, I never will rest

-The poem is about my father's alcoholism, and how he refuses to stop-
