Never Grow Up Poem by Anusha Subramanian 99

Never Grow Up

Why does the magic have to die?
Why do we have to say goodbye?
Why does the laughter extinguish?
Am I the only one to wish-

That birthday wishes do come true
That there is life is pictures that you drew
And dreams are not just hopes

That Santa still comes to town
That stars in the sky do fall down
And for a happy ending there is still scope

But then it all starts to fade
Unraveling everything you made
And all the second guessing starts
Regrets weighing upon your heart

Is this growing up
Cause I don't want to
Rewind the time and pause
Why can't you?
Just don't let go of the days
And say everything you ever wanted to say

Overthinking everything constantly
What the hell changed so drastically?
When did we stop believing in fairytales
And put our feelings up for sales?

Everything used to be funny before
Mirthful eyes twinkling even more
Didn't matter what you said or wore
We all lived life to the core

Holding on to the thousand memories
Leaving behind the crippling tragedies
Being yourself shouldn't be this hard
Don't let yourself get this scarred

Is this growing up
Cause I don't want to
Rewind the time and pause
Why can't you?
Just don't let go of the days
And say everything you ever wanted to say!
