Never Ride Solo Poem by Addy Adenawo

Never Ride Solo

The journey is filled with tears
That long harrowing, drenching outpouring
It's plagued by the demons from hell
Impatience, defeat and jealousy
Where efforts fail for some while others simply sail through
The green eyed villain finds home in the soul, stripping it nude

The road is paved with frustration with dottings of the frustrated
Their placards lowered in fatigue
Abandoned mission, forgotten vision they sit dejected
Faces etched with defeat
The light of hope has dimmed to a resigned glow
After crumbling under life's insistent blow

With wistful regret he watches another optimist approach
His steps determined on the path of life
He remember when he was once so full of hope
When the path had been so clear, left or right
When he'd walked with giants and soared with birds
Long before the crash and the burn

As optimism nears he lowers his head, resigned
Not wanting to see another person take that step
Knowing it'd crush him to see the gleam of success in his eyes
When he pulls himself from that depth
Failure is a bitter pill to swallow
It's death to see others soar while you wallow

Daring to look up he sees an outstretched arm
Attached to the optimistic stranger
And spread across his face a kind smile
That piqued his conscience and made him ponder
Why'd this stranger offer a piece of his hope
When others had raced by unwilling to get close?

As he took a hold of the hand the answer came to him
Here was a man with a heart of gold
An angel sent to set him back on his feet
And help him reach the end of the road
Like the star to the three wise men
Leading them to the saviour, a true friend

Look to the left, look to the right
Help the person on either side of you
Help make their hope bright
And you'd feel brand new
Because the journey can be lonesome when you travel alone
Seek out a chance to offer help and never ride solo.
