New Horizons Poem by Adamae Liege

New Horizons

Rating: 5.0

It wasn't quite dark,
nor was it light,
As I sat on the ocean
and sailed out of sight.

The sun not quite set,
the moon not quite risen
As I made my escape
from my long time prison.

The rope round my wrists
and chain round my neck
slid off as I waved
and hoped not to wreck.

People on the shore
stood about and cried
I was finally free
so I only half sighed.

I felt the sea breeze
and the salt in my face
as I looked to the horizon
where the sea met space.

Looking over the side
of my little boat
I saw many fish
staying afloat.

I looked out for anything
where I could land,
but as far as I could see
there was nothing at hand.

The sun not quite risen,
the moon not quite set,
I saw what I was looking for
I just didn't know it yet.

And as the new land,
came into my sight
I felt the shackles of my imagination
slip off into the night.
