Night Poem by Damein Taylor

Night

As I lay there In the shadows
I see the creatures circle me
I know they're here for my soul
But I refuse to hand it over
I've done some awful things in my life
I can't afford to pass on
So I try to fight them off with my knife
The blade passes right through them
As they reach out for me
The World goes dark
And I hear sounds of the tortured souls
Begging for mercy from those who bark
My soul leaves my body
In those last moments
I ask for help and my shell falls to the ground
The battle for my soul ends in my defeat.

I'd second what Godfrey said, definitely keep going man. Probably what I enjoyed most is that you didn't feel the need to rhyme every single line; there's a place for that, but it's not a necessity to poetry.
