Night's Solicitation Poem by Lisa Nickle

Night's Solicitation

And when the night starts knocking at your door
I want you to remember
when we owned the night.
I mean put it in its place,
zapped the life right out of it
OWNED
The moments we spent
dancing with dreams
and dappling in things our mothers would have shunned.

When that night takes over
you tell it to suck it!
Like the time
that guy was
grinding on me…
and you simply
wouldn’t have it.
I want you to be the light
I see in your eyes when you laugh
I want you know with certainty
that no matter how time,
darkness,
or wasted space
try to separate us,
you are my best
friend.
You test my faith
while I try to show you yours.
You laugh when I cry
to make me forget my sorrow
and you
you
show me what strength really means
so…
when Night comes knocking at your door
remind him kindly
you’re not
that girl
anymore.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have a very dear friend who is in a constant struggle with a darkness she can't control. I wrote this for her, to make her smile, and remember that she is always worth fighting for. Dedicated to T.M. January 2013
