Nightmares Poem by Molly OShaunessy

Nightmares

Rating: 5.0

Nightmares are like a fear you can't shake
They come into the most peaceful times of your day
They invade your mind with your most unwanted thoughts or memories
And they leave your mind shaken

And the worst part?
They don't always come when you're asleep
Sometimes, they come through your mind unexpected in the middle of the day

They are not always dreams
Sometimes, they are painful memories
Things that haunt your past and present
Scars, that never go away

Sometimes, they are people
The worst kind that make even more nightmares
The kind that make you question whether or not life is worth living

Sometimes, they are your demons
That stay constantly on your shoulder
Whispering in your ear your worst fears

And sometimes,
Your nightmares,
The very worst ones,
Are yourself.
