Bhole Shankara,
Adi Shankara.
Under the shadow of
Shiva Mahadeva
I walking past my way,
Pausing by to see
The mural,
The mural of Shiva
And thinking,
Thinking about Shiva Sambhu,
Nilkantha Mahadeva
Here I want to relate to what is that has propelled the writing of this poem, so sought after and pursued for so long and now culminating in the form of the latent desire given a shape to and executed after all. There were definitely some poems which I did it long ago basing on Nilkantha Mahadeva, but here this poem is the instant result of the comments made on my poetry with references to Nil Mahadeva and Nil Madhava. The other main cause is the observation of the Nil Puja one during the Gajan festival in which the Aryan and non-Aryan things fuse in miraculously. The blue bird, the aparajita blooms and other than this of the blue colour together with the Siva myth take the flight from and I dream and delve into the realms far and far away.
When I posted Neel Puja poem on Linkedin, it got more than 300 impressions within a very short span of time. So was the case with Neel Puja, Neel Mahadeva and Chaitra Coming To A Close which got more than two hundred impressions instantly in a day or two.
Neel Puja
Neel Puja,
The origin of it,
How did welcome to worship
Shiva-Parvati
In the last of Chaitra
With Shiva Gajan,
The garjan (roar) of the bhakts
In which
The Austro-Asiatic and the Aryan
Trends and traditions
Meet it in fusion?
The bounty and blessing sought for
Ends with
The worship of Shiva-Sati,
The Lingam-Yoni motif
Ritualizing on Neel Shasti
And the pious worship of Shiva
Paid with visits to the pagoda.
How holy is this Neel Puja,
Women keeping a fast
And seeking blessings for their children,
Making us remember of Shiva going neel, blue,
Nilkantha, blue-throated
After taking poison
With a mythological perspective
Heralding Poila Baisakh?
Invocation In The Form of Prayer, Maglacharan-aarti
(The light is burning,
And the people in service
And the devotees praying,
Praying submissively.)
Nil Mahadeva,
Mahadeva
Who is blue,
Blue
Pray I, pray I,
Worship, worship I,
Blue,
Blue Mahadeva.
Let Siva,
Siva,
Siva-Sankara,
Sankara
Be our guide,
Our guide,
Siva-Mahadeva
Be our light, ,
Light illuminating.
The Purpose
Nil Mahadeva
On Nil Shasti,
I going for Mahadeva,
You going,
Mahadeva, Mahadeva,
In you, in me,
In us,
Mahadeva, Mahadeva.
Nil Mahadeva
Showing nila visions,
Blue visions
Connecting, connecting us internally
With rocks, stones,
Rivers, mountains and seas
And the myths told-untold.
Nil Mahadeva,
How the image, the vision
Of Mahadeva
Blessing us, blessing us
With his upheld hand
And with his showering of bounty,
Be happy,
You be happy for ever!
Neel Puja, Neel Mahadeva and Chaitra Coming To A Close
Now it is time, time
As for going blue, blue with
Neel Puja,
Neel Puja and Neel Mahadeva,
Neel Mahadeva,
Blue, blue-throated Mahadeva,
You come, come to anoint,
Anoint the Linga,
Shiva-linga,
The black basalt,
The basalt looking,
Looking blue,
Emitting,
Emitting bluish light, light,
The myth of Siva, Siva-Sankara
And the churning, churning of the ocean
And drinking, drinking of poison,
Women folks with children going, going
To pour water, with dhup, dip and naivedya
Over Sankara, the Lingam
Symbolizing Siva-Siva
With Chaitra, the blazing hot of it
Coming to a close
And Baisakh to make a way for.
Har Har Mahadev
Har Har Mahadev,
Har Har Mahadev,
Siva Sambhu Sankara,
Whose shadow and image is in the skies looking blue,
The clouds looming around for a burst upon,
Rivers with crystal clear pearly waters coming down
And the Yogiraj,
The Mystic Master lost in dhyana,
Sadhna.
On Neel Puja
On Neel Puja,
I going Neel
In the worship of Mahadeva,
Shiva Mahadeva,
Bhole Shankara,
Neel-neel Mahadeva
On Neel Shasthi,
Neel Shasti of Chaitra,
Blazing hot and parching Chaitra,
Chaitra
Women and children going,
Going to worship Shiva-Shiva,
Shiva Shankara,
Bhole Shankara,
May Shiva be with them,
With them
Heralding Vaisakh,
Vaisakh to make a way
With sporadic clouds and winds.
Shiva Gajan (Grand Local Festival of Shiva)
Gajan,
Shiva Gajan,
It's time for Shiva Gajan
And the bhaktas, Shiva-bhaktas
Penancing, living as sanyasins
In the temple complex,
Fasting and on restricted food and fruits,
Self-cooking and outing during the night time
With bands and lights,
Collecting pyre coals,
Visiting crematoriums,
Showing acrobatic skills,
Swinging from great towered swings,
Walking over holy fires and briars
A ceremony marking the close of hot and blazing Vaisakh
And the herald of Vaisakh.
When I Enquired About The Blue-throat of Shiva
I went to ask the ocean,
Why the throat of Shiva blue? ,
I went on ask the blue bird,
Why is that of Shiva's blue? ,
The bell-shaped aparajita bloom,
But all remained calm and quiet and speechless.
Siva Siva,
Siva in the shadows of the mountains lurking around,
Siva in the rivers flowing the ravines and valleys,
Siva whose reflection in the skies above
And the oceans deep and crystal blue.
On Neel Puja
Neel Puja,
Neel Shasthi
And Nilkantha Mahadeva,
How to worship Shiva
In Chaitra,
How to seek for blessing
From Shankara?
While Going To Collect Flowers To Offer
The roadside yakand blooms called me
To pick the beads,
The daturas calling to pick the stalks
And the bell-shaped blue aparijitas asking to pluck
The strangely-freckled blue blooms
As for to offer to Mahadeva,
Nilkantha Mahadeva
On Neel Puja in blazing Chaitra
And beating the scorching heat
Went I to worship, worship Shiva
With my naivedya, dhup, dip and fala-fula
And water to pour over the linga
And the coconut water.
On Neel Puja
On Neel Puja,
I going Neel
In the worship of Mahadeva,
Shiva Mahadeva,
Bhole Shankara,
Neel-neel Mahadeva
On Neel Shasthi,
Neel Shasti of Chaitra,
Blazing, hot and parching Chaitra,
Chaitra
Women and children going,
Going to worship Shiva-Shiva,
Shiva Shankara, Bhole Shankara,
May Shiva be with them,
With them
Heralding Vaisakh,
Vaisakh to make a way
With sporadic clouds and winds.
Epilogue
I Do Not
I do not know
Why do
Wayward
Yakand blooms
And rudraksha beads
Remind me
Of Siva,
Siva-Siva
And I going
My way
With Siva-Siva
On lips
Whispering to myself
And going?
Shiva Art
Shiva art
Telling of Bhole Maheshwara,
Shiva Shankara
Mahadeva,
The legends and tales of Shiva
Told by the folks
From age to age.
In The Wild Blue Blooms
In the blue wild blooms
Saw I Siva,
Nilkantha Mahadeva
Revealing the secrets and mysteries
Never resolved before.
Siva, Parvati With small Ganesha & Kartikeya
With child Ganesha
Into my lap
I going for a world-view
Through mythology.
Blue Bell Blooms As Sacred Offerings To Neel Mahadeva
Blue bellls for Mahadeva,
Blue bells as offerings to,
Floral offerings
To Mahadeva,
Neel Mahadeva,
Gouri Sankara,
Siva Parvati.
Let Mahadeva absolve all our sins,
Let Mahadeva be our guide,
Neel Mahadeva,
Light coming out of the blue
And radiating like the gem light to remove obstacles in life.
Thou Be With
O Mahadeva, Thou be with,
Be with me, me,
Thou O Remover of my cares and anxieties,
Shiva, O Shiva-Shankara
Mahadeva,
Neelkantha Mahadeva,
Thou be,
Be with, with me!
I, I standing, standing submissively,
Submissively at Thy door
To offer, offer wild, wild blue blooms,
Blue blooms, O Mahadeva,
Nilkantha Mahadeva of myths and mysteries
And shadows lurking out of gigantic mountains!
The Trinity Matter
Brahma,
Vishnu,
Maheshwara,
The Trinity,
Brahma the Creator,
Vishnu the Preserver,
Maheshwara the Destroyer..
A Picture, An Image
Shiva in meditation
Atop the mountainous site
Sitting cross-legged
With the held aloft
As if were blessing.
Ecstasy, Suppose You
Shiva into the lap of mine
And I going with Brahmanda Darshan,
Brahmajnan.
Child Ganesha
With child Ganesha
Into my lap
I going for a world-view
Through mythology.
Postscript
Now the poetical series which I have called Neel Mahadeva is coming to a close and I too wish to wind it up and the work too is an assemblage of so many posts which I uploaded or posted on the websites and the readers' impressions and views too swung a bit in their favour. Though the collection has come out of the Neel Puja which lasts with Chaitra, but apart from that something of obeisance and oblation is in it and the work may interest you if like to go through the lines and the sentiments expressed. You may call it a rumination on Siva. Where is not Siva? Wherever see you there is Siva, Siva-Siva, all around us. Random reflections form the text of the poem and these have been borrowed to constitute the poem, loose in structure. Only the new poems written after the Neel Puja held recently have been included in.
Sadasiva
Sadasiva,
Siva, Sadasiva,
A brown-haired and matted Siva
In a necklace of rudraksha rosary
Seated atop the house
In a squatting posture of japa
With the kamandala and the trishula,
How the sculpture made from white China clay
Looking like a yogi in transcendental meditation,
A state of dhyana!
Blue Bells For Siva, Bunches of Blue Bells, Wild Blue Bells
Blue bells,
Blue bells for Siva,
A bunch of blue bells,
Blue bell flowers,
Wild blue blooms
For Siva,
Siva Maheshvara,
Brahma Vishnu Maheshvara,
Vishnu Maheshvara Vishnu,
Maheshvara Brahma Vishnu.
Deliverance
Deliverance, Liberation
In the memory of my grand niece who is no more
The House of Curse,
Let You, let You be with,
Be with,
O Siva, Siva Mahadeva,
Neel Mahadeva,
Let Your, Your Blessing be,
Be with the nameless soul
On her heavenly journey,
Let Your, Your Blessing be,
Be with the innocent soul
Embarking on her uncalled for retreat!
Absolve us, absolve us of sins,
Of sins, Siva, O Siva!
